Anxiety

  • Social or performance anxiety: Limited. A single dose of oral CBD before a stressful task reduced anxiety in small trials.

  • Day-to-day anxiety disorders: Not established. A 2026 Lancet Psychiatry review of 54 trials found no significant benefit for anxiety disorders; an earlier 2024 analysis of 8 small CBD studies had suggested benefit.

  • THC for anxiety: Limited. THC can trigger anxiety or panic, especially at higher doses.

Compared with standard treatment: Therapy and SSRIs have f ar stronger evidence. CBD may be an option for people who cannot tolerate them.

Good to know: Choose CBD-dominant products. If you notice racing thoughts or panic, the THC content is likely too high.

What to ask for: A CBD-dominant oral product (CBD-only or 20:1). Not yet proven but reasonable: if a product contains THC, choose one higher in limonene, which reduced THC-caused anxiety in one small study .
