Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis

  • Pain, appetite, and general well-being: Limited. In one small Crohn’s trial, 10 of 11 patients on THC-rich cannabis improved, versus 4 of 10 on placebo.

  • Remission and healing: Not established. Inflammation markers did not improve, and a CBD trial in ulcerative colitis found no difference in remission.

Compared with standard treatment: Biologics and other IBD drugs heal the gut lining. Cannabis may ease symptoms while active inflammation continues unnoticed.

Good to know: Keep scheduled scopes and labs even if you feel better . Some studies link heavy use to more surgery in Crohn’s.

What to ask for: For symptom relief , a THC-containing product, the type that helped in the Crohn’s trial. CBD-rich extract did not help in the ulcerative colitis trial.
